Two Hectare

In 2025, REST presented Two Hectare, a public presentation exploring the relationship and interaction between nature and culture. The focus was on the REST site itself, a historic stolp farmhouse in Mirns, Gaasterland, an area with a long and rich history characterized by a great diversity of landscapes. It is a place where dualisms such as historical and modern, natural and artificial, and local and global intersect. Through art, design, and food, a variety of perspectives on the site were explored in order to gain a deeper understanding of our natural environment and human culture at large.

Two Hectare revolved around a central group exhibition featuring Aliki van der Kruijs, Boris Acket, Giulia Cenci, Kinke Kooi, Lennart Lahuis, Marte Mei, Our Rags Magazine (Elisa van Joolen and Aimée Zito Lema), and Sander Wassink. In addition, the program consisted of educational activities, talks, dining experiences, workshops, and guided tours. The works were presented both indoors in the barn and outdoors on the land. They entered into a relationship with the surroundings of REST to bring forgotten, hidden, and emerging stories embedded in the site to the surface.
