This Walk/Talk took place on July 12 with artist Aliki van der Kruijs (artist and textile designer), expert Kees de Haan (J.O.N.G Architects), and Studio ERBA (Suzanne Bernhardt and Philipp Kolmann). During this gathering and guided tour, the group discussed which materials most frequently pass through their hands and how material traces can be followed in daily life. This led to unexpected conversations and contradictions, for example with a psychiatrist who prescribes medication produced from chemical substances largely unknown to most of those present and of unclear origin. This was contrasted with the highly traceable materials from local historic farmhouses that J.O.N.G Architects work with. That week, Studio ERBA had explored overlooked plants and flavours and composed a tasting of unusual origin, including ice cream made from silage grass (fermented grass) and herbs normally grazed by cattle. In this way, the gathering offered access to the materials around us through conversation, observation, and tasting, across art, food, textile, architecture, and everyday life.
